Ministry of Defense Museum (Saqr Al-Jazira) .. The Beacon and Memory of Saudi Aviation

Al-Jazira Museum is considered one of the most prominent landmarks that highlight the history of military aviation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This museum was established in 1999 in the city of Riyadh to serve as a living witness to the remarkable development witnessed by the Royal Saudi Air Force since its inception.

The museum narrates the story of success and progress achieved by the Royal Saudi Air Force since its establishment in 1344 AH, and presents the stages of its development from the creation of the first nucleus of air forces in Saudi Arabia in 1347 AH, passing through all the milestones of growth the Kingdom has achieved over the years.

The museum houses a unique collection of historical aircraft and technologies that tell the story of military glory, in addition to exhibits that document the advanced scientific and technical dimensions of the aviation world.

The museum does not only present the history of Saudi aviation, but creates a unique balance between a rich past filled with memories and victories, and a present witnessing unprecedented leaps in aviation and technology. Within its halls, visitors find themselves in a traditional visual experience that combines history and technology, through advanced display screens equipped with the latest technologies such as LED touch screens that transport them into the depths of the live Saudi aviation experience.

Among the most prominent aircraft displayed in the museum are the Tornado F15 aircraft and the Dakota aircraft, which carries a unique history. The Dakota is considered one of the first civilian aircraft acquired by King Abdulaziz رحمه الله, and it was used in many official missions, later becoming a symbol of Saudi air transport.

The importance of this aircraft lies not only in being the first civilian plane, but also in the fact that it was the means that enabled the founder of this country, King Abdulaziz, in his early journeys, and it also contributed to improving transportation within the Kingdom, marking a decisive turning point in the field of air transport.

The museum receives great support and attention from the Saudi leadership, reflecting in an honorable manner Saudi Arabia’s commitment to documenting its military journey and its development in the field of aviation.

The museum offers visitors a unique opportunity to enter historical aircraft and closely explore documents and photographs that recount the details of King Abdulaziz’s historic journey, in addition to many companions who participated in that important trip.

The museum also includes a historical photo corner, which displays a collection of photographs and documents that document the various stages of the Royal Saudi Air Force’s history, from its establishment to the present day, through interactive display screens and models that simulate early aircraft, as well as visits by military leaders.

On the other hand, the museum also includes the Air Bases section, which showcases the most important air bases in Saudi Arabia, starting with King Abdulaziz Air Base in Dhahran, which is considered the oldest air base in the Kingdom. This section allows visitors to learn about the history of each base, reviewing through commemorative photos and documents the most significant development milestones of the Air Force, and also displays photos of the commanders who successively led these bases.
